TERRY DAVIS MEETS WITH MEDIA
The meeting was opened by Head of the Azerbaijan Parliamentary delegation to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Samad Seyidov.
The questions from journalists were quite concrete as follows: “What kind of character the report is expected to be of: just information, some recommendations or concrete proposal?”, “Why do you draw a parallel between refugees in Armenia and Azerbaijan?”, “Did you try to find out why Azerbaijanis had left Shusha?”, Will the fact of occupation be reflected in the report?”, “At the British Parliament you are the member of the friendship group both with Azerbaijan and Armenia, how can you maintain friendly relations with both aggressor and victim of the aggression?” , “Do you know that Robert Kocharyan is one of the main initiators of the Khojali tragedy the 12th anniversary of which we are marking today?“.
Not giving concrete answers, the PACE rapporteur Terry Davis stressed he was not a mediator and it was not his job to solve the tasks of the OSCE Mibnsk group. He said he would try that all he had seen and heard to be reflected in the report with special emphasis on the refugees. Mr. Davis added he had been very careful while answering questions in both Armenia and Azerbaijan. He also expressed his satisfaction with the Government of Azerbaijan, and the official he had met with, as well as gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for two-hours meeting.
