TRAINING ON CULTURE OF PEACE

A two-day training on culture of peace, financially supported by UNIFEM’s “Women for Conflict Prevention and Peace Building in the Southern Caucasus” project, started on August 29-30, 2003 in International Press Center. The participants of the training, representing different governmental and non-governmental organizations, political parties and newly organized national network of internally displaced women, will discuss the concept of culture of peace, its basic principles, tolerance, intercultural relations, the ways leading to culture of peace from culture of violence.

National Coordinator of UNIFEM project in Azerbaijan Ms. Gulshan Pashayeva opened the event with introductory speech and greeted the participants of the training. The trainers, Professor of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Fuad Mammadov and the Head of the Department of the Institute of Philosophy and Social-Juridical Investigations Professor Ali Abbasov, as well as the Director of the International Press Center Mr. Jafar Jafarov pointed out the urgency of culture of peace subject in modern world and wished success to the training.

United Nations Development Fund for Women is the affiliate of UN, dealing with promotion of the women’s rights and gender’s right equality issues. The goal of its project “Women for Conflict Prevention and Peace Building in the Southern Caucasus” is to create and raise the potentials of women to participate in peace building activities in the Southern Caucasus.
