Turkish Prime Minister's spouse visits Carpet Museum
Baku, June 3, AZERTAC
Spouse of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey Semiha Yildirim has today visited Azerbaijan Carpet Museum.
She was informed about the museum. In 2010, Azerbaijan`s traditional art of carpet weaving was included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Carpet Museum, where unique samples of applied arts are exhibited, has been located in different places throughout its history. President Ilham Aliyev signed an Order on construction of a separate building for the museum with the aim of expanding its capabilities and effectiveness of demonstrating carpets that represent unique pearls of Azerbaijan. A foundation laying ceremony of the building took place at the Seaside National Park on 15 May 2008.
The building design is reminiscent of a rolled up carpet. The museum now houses 13,300 exhibits and items, including carpets, thread-work samples, metalwork, fabrics, clothing, ceramic, glass, wooden and paper items, jewelry, books, and a unique collection of photographs.
Turkish Prime Minister's spouse was deeply impressed by the museum.
