University students to write articles in Wikipedia for tests
Baku, November 26 (AZERTAC). The largest online encyclopedia Wikipedia and several higher educational institutions of the U.S. have launched a joint project called Public Policy Imitative. Students will write articles in Wikipedia on the basis of the interaction activity, which will be credited to students as part of a course project. For the current semester, nine professors from eight universities have already confirmed their participation in the project.
The students have already begun to mastering the basics of editing materials online encyclopedia and received corresponding tasks. Within the program young people will not only write new articles for the web, but also verify and edit materials from other authors.
It is supposed that cooperation will be mutually beneficial: on the one hand, the encyclopedia will improve the number of articles and receive error-free information from reliable sources, on the other hand students will have to search for data in the humanities and social sciences in other resources, without resorting to Wikipedia.
Representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation say that they intend to extend the project to other educational institutions and in other languages beyond English-language version.
