US DEFENSE MINISTER VISITED UZBEKISTAN AND KAZAKHSTAN
At the meeting with the president of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, Mr. Ramsfeld noted that the relations between the two countries in the public, political and economic spheres persistently develop. The parties fruitfully cooperate in the field of joint combat against international terrorism, drug and weapons smuggling, extremism and organized crime. As of cooperation in the military and military-technical sphere, it is the guarantee for regional safety and stability.
In the meeting, the parties exchanged views on related to expansion of bilateral cooperation, strengthening of the regional security, as well as situation in Afghanistan.
Minister of defense of the United States in Almati with the Premier of Kazakhstan Danil Ahmadov, foreign minister Kasimjomard Tokayev and defense minister Mukhtar Altinbekov. During the negotiations, Mr. D. Ramsfeld gave positive assessment to the attitude of Kazakhstan to the anti-terror operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
D. Ramsfeld noted that Kazakhstan and US mostly will cooperate in combat against drug smuggling and in the issues of security of the Caspian region, so that security in the Caspian region is the important factor both for Kazakhstan and the world.
To reach this goal, the United States is going shortly to put investments in Kazakhstan at amount $12 billion.
