14-year-old receives first 3-D printed nose in US
Baku, January 6, AZERTAC
The unique operation to transplant an artificial nose was made in the Marshall Islands. Functional implant, according to the surgeon Tal Dagan, will grow like a normal body and do not require further surgery. This is all the more important that its owner is 14-year-old boy.
Dallan Jennet was injured five years ago after falling on a power line. In 2015, in New York, specialists restored the first teenager ear and eye. It took almost a year to prepare for the transplant surgery of the nose. First through cosmetic surgery doctors prepared the boy's face transplant.
A lot of time was spent on collecting information on the structure of the nose, so that the implant is not different from the original.
The first stage in the operation, which required 16 hours, using a laser was analyzed skin structure. Muscle tissue and blood vessels, surgeons took the patient from the hip. After installation, transplant doctors reconstructed skin at the operative site.
The new technology is a breakthrough in facial surgery, as it also solves a problem of traditional transplants as tissue rejection.
