23 killed in Mexico, 16 of them burned

Baku, November 24 (AZERTAC). Police found 16 burned bodies in two pickup trucks in the western city of Culiacan on Wednesday.

State Attorney General Marco Antonio Higuera Gomez said that neighbours called police when they saw a pickup truck on fire early Wednesday in the Antonio Rosales neighbourhood of the state capital, Culiacan.

Police found 12 bodies on the bed of the truck, some of them handcuffed and wearing bulletproof vests.

Minutes later, authorities received another call about a pickup truck burning behind a store where police found four more bodies inside the vehicle.

Seven more people were shot to death in the towns of Mocorito and Guamuchil.

Drug violence has killed tens of thousands of people in Mexico over the past four years since President Felipe Calderon deployed security forces to fight drug cartels.
