EU Council delegation visits Shusha

A delegation of the EU Council Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST) visited Shusha on October 2.
Aydin Karimov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Shusha district, briefed the guests on the history of the city, its situation during the occupation, as well as the reconstruction efforts underway in the city following its liberation from occupation.
The delegation’s tour of Shusha started with visits to the Yukhari Govhar Agha and Ashagi Govhar Agha mosques.
The EU Council delegation then viewed the monuments to prominent personalities of Azerbaijan such as Natavan, Bulbul and Uzeyir Hajibayli, which were shot at by Armenians in Shusha during the occupation.
The delegation also familiarized themselves with the fortress walls of Shusha, as they informed about the history of Shusha and the construction of the fortress walls.
During the visit, the guests toured the first residential complex in Shusha to view the conditions created for residents. The foundation of the residential complex was laid in 2021, leading to its official opening on May 10, 2024.
The delegation members were also informed about the Gazanchi Church in Shusha.
