Baku, November 2 (AZERTAC). Company Apple for the first has entered the top 5 chart of worldwide mobile phone vendors for the third quarter of current year, said a report from industry analyst firm IDC. Worldwide shipments of mobile phones grew by 14.6% to 340.5 million units. Note that it is the first fourth consecutive quarter in which the market has showed double-digit growth due to the rapid growth in the smartphone segment. The entrance of Apple to the top 5 vendor ranking underscores the increased importance of smartphones to the overall market, the growing popularity of smartphones has contributed to Apple to be in the top 5 largest vendors of mobile phones in the 3rd quarter apart from Research in Motion ( RIM, manufacturer of BlackBerry smartphones).
Apple accounts for 4.1% of global shipments of mobile phones. For the quarter the company shipped 14.1 million devices. Pushing RIM down, Apple was able to take the fourth place. It should be noted that it is the first time Sony Ericsson has left the top 5 since 2004.
The world`s largest manufacturer of mobile phones Nokia still remains on top. It owns 32.4% of market share. However, its share in the market is diminishing, and last year the company lost more than 4 percent of the market. Second and third places went to South Korean companies - Samsung (21.0%) and LG (8.3%) respectively. RIM accounts for 3.6% market share.
