Argentina president opens World News Agencies Congress
Baku, October 20 (AZERTAC). Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner opened on Tuesday the 3rd World News Agencies Congress, which will run in the town of San Carlos de Bariloche (Rio Negro province) from Wednesday.
Taking part in it are 166 directors and representatives of 76 world news agencies from all over the world, including Itar-Tass.
The head of state emphasized the significance of the Congress stating that she felt great responsibility because of the honor to launch this important forum.
The Argentine leader urged the mass media to be more responsible in delivering information on world events, and wished successful work to the Congress participants.
The participants will hear reports by directors of the largest world new agencies and discuss the pressing problems and tasks aimed at preserving the leading role of the mass media.
In addition, they will touch upon the theme of training journalists to use modern technologies and multimedia. News agencies representatives will attempt to take a look at their products and services with their clients` eyes, in order to take into account their new needs.
An international contest of photos will be staged within the framework of the forum in four categories: financial crisis, holidays, disasters and sport events. A jury will select the winners.
The World News Agencies Congress was set up in 2004 at the initiative of Itar-Tass as news agencies representatives met for their first session in Moscow.
The 2nd congress took place in the Spanish town of Estepona.
