Azerbaijan, Georgia discus cooperation in food safety
Baku, May 6, AZERTAC
Goshgar Tahmazli, Head of Azerbaijan’s Food Safety Agency, met with Giorgi Iakobashvili, head of Georgia’s National Food Agency.
The sides discussed the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan–Georgia cooperation in food safety. It was noted that since August last year, recognition of Georgia’s food safety control system equivalence has boosted trade relations and enabled the export of high-risk food products to Azerbaijan without additional assessment procedures.
The sides discussed ways to ensure more efficient control over the import, export, and transit of food products, including the strengthening of joint efforts to combat the brown marmorated stink bug.
Georgi Iakobashvili underlined that there is considerable potential for further expansion of cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting also covered other issues of mutual interest, with future steps identified to expand cooperation and further strengthen institutional relations.
