Azerbaijan sends aid convoy to Turkey
Baku, 26 October (AZERTAC). In accordance with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s order, towards the evening of Wednesday an aid convoy taking humanitarian aid for the victims of the recent earthquake will leave for Van, Turkey.
An Azerbaijan’s aid convoy consists of several vehicles carrying 1.000 tents (each 24 square meters), 40 generators, 40 sets of kitchen accessories and more than 2000 blankets.
Earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has sent to Turkey more than 250 tents, 700 field sleeping sets, 3000 blankets, 2000 bedclothes and 2 field kitchens.
The rescue teams from Azerbaijan are still involved in rescue work in Van city in Turkey damaged by a recent earthquake.
The Azerbaijani rescuers retrieved 13 bodies from under the rubles in the disaster zone last night, the sources in the Ministry said. The Azerbaijani rescuers have retrieved 10 people alive and 36 dead bodies from under the debris so far.
Rescue teams in Turkey are continuing to search for people trapped under rubble after a strong earthquake hit the eastern Van region on Sunday.
Some 459 people died and 1,352 were injured in the 7.2 magnitude quake, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Turkey.
Nearly 1,000 buildings have been destroyed in the disaster zone, with the town of Ercis the worst hit. The death toll is expected to rise as outlying areas are reached.
