AZERBAIJAN STATE DIASPORA COMMITTEE TURNS 8
Baku, July 5 (AZERTAC). 8 years elapse since the Azerbaijan State Diaspora Committee was established. Founded under the Decree issued by Heydar Aliyev on July 5, 2002 for the development of relations with the Azerbaijanis abroad, the Committee conducts the Diaspora policy of the government of Azerbaijan. On November 19, 2008, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev issued a Decree to establish the State Committee for Diaspora Activities on the basis of the State Committee for Work with the Azerbaijanis living abroad. Essentials of the government policy for work with the Azerbaijanis abroad are determined by the law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the government policy on the Azerbaijanis living and working abroad.
Significant measures were taken in the past eight years of the State Committee`s activity for organizing the Azerbaijani people abroad, protection of national and spiritual values among the compatriots and protection of their rights and freedoms.
The State Committee worked out the Charter of the World Azerbaijanis, adopted on December 18, 2008 at the meeting of the World Azerbaijanis Coordinating Council in Baku. About 370 Azerbaijani communities are working in numerous countries.
