AZERBAIJANI DELEGATION ATTENDS 24th UPU CONGRESS
Azerbaijani delegation headed by the Minister for Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov attended the 24th congress of the Universal Postal Union held in Genève, Switzerland. This meeting gathered representatives from 191 countries.
During the event, Azerbaijan has been elected for the second 4-year term as a member of the UPU`s Council of Administration. The country will be represented in the UPU Exploitation Council for the first time.
Azerbaijan and Russia were the only CIS countries to be elected as members of these organizations.
Azerbaijani delegation submitted a statement about the situation of post services in the Azerbaijani lands occupied by Armenian aggressors. The statement demanded to prevent the release illegal stamps by the so-called "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic".
During the visit, Ali Abbasov met with UPU General Director Eduard Dayan and discussed the prospects for Azerbaijan-UPU cooperation.
Minister Ali Abbasov also met with Director of the ITU`s Radiocommunication Bureau Valery Timofeev.
The 25th UPU congress will held in Qatar in 2012.
