Azerbaijani embassy to Iran marks 28 May - Republic Day
Tehran, May 28 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s embassy to Iran has organized a solemn event on the “28 May- the Republic Day of Azerbaijan”.
The event brought together Iranian officials and representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations in Tehran.
The participants laid a wreath at national leader Heydar Aliyev`s bust in the embassy.
They then watched a documentary on Azerbaijan`s history, culture and economic development.
Opening the event, ambassador Javanshir Akhundov informed the participants on the history of independence of the Azerbaijani people, the founding of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and its development.
He said it was national leader Heydar Aliyev`s huge experience and wise policy that saved Azerbaijan when it was on the verge of collapse.
Akhundov underlined “the successful continuation of this policy by President Ilham Aliyev has ensured systematic and complex development of Azerbaijan”.
He said: "Today Azerbaijan has strengthened its positions on the international arena.”
The event featured a concert by Dada Gorgud ashig band.
