AZERBAIJANI FM MEETS WITH DEFENSE MINISTER OF IRAN
Foreign Minister said political, economic and cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Iran have a great history and noted that reciprocal visits of Presidents and Foreign Office representatives of both countries play a key role in developing these ties.
Mohammad-Najjar mentioned that President and Head of Foreign Office of Iran will visit Azerbaijan to partake in the meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization. Speaking of the friendly bilateral relations Iranian Minster noted the military cooperation is developing as well. According to Mohammad-Najjar, Iran supports territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan should effectively use existing possibilities to increase its economic and defense power.
On behalf of the Azerbaijan Government, Minister Mammadyarov expressed gratitude to the Iranian side for supporting Azerbaijan’s stance towards Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the UN, OIC and other international organizations. According to E. Mammadyarov, along with pentalateral negotiations on the Caspian Sea status Azerbaijan-Iran talks are of great importance as well. Minister said strengthening peace and stability in the Caspian region meets the national interests of Azerbaijan.
Iranian Minister stressed the importance of settling the Caspian Sea status by Caspian nations themselves.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
