Azerbaijani Parliament`s Speaker meets EU Special Representative
Baku, September 5 (AZERTAC). Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament (Milli Majlis) Ogtay Asadov has met the European Union Special Representative (EUSR) for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Philippe Lefort.
They discussed prospects for development of EU-Azerbaijan cooperation, settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Asadov expressed hope Lefort would play an important role in solution of the existing problems in the South Caucasus region and development of bilateral relations.
The Speaker noted Azerbaijan was interested in cooperation with European democratic institutions. He expressed confidence that Azerbaijan-EU relationship would expand even more within the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.
Asadov praised the fact that provisions on withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and recognition of territorial integrity of states were reflected in the resolution adopted last year by the European Parliament on EU Strategy for the South Caucasus.
For his part, Lefort praised the ongoing development process in Azerbaijan. He said he would try to contribute to deepening relations between Azerbaijan and EU.
