Azerbaijani Speaker meets Head of OSCE/ODIHR observation mission
Baku, October 23 (AZERTAC). Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament Ogtay Asadov has today met with Ambassador Audrey Glover, head of the observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
Asadov said Azerbaijan is “closely” cooperating with the world`s leading organizations, including OSCE and its ODIHR.
“ODIHR is going to observe elections in Azerbaijan for the 8th time. This is a striking example of our cooperation”, the Speaker said.
Asadov pointed out that “Azerbaijan, which is rapidly integrating into the Euroatlantic space, brings its laws in line with European standards.” “In this context, we are effectively cooperating under the Twining project”, he noted.
Touching upon the 7 November parliamentary elections, the Speaker said the Azerbaijani state has put all its efforts into holding democratic, transparent and free elections.
Ambassador Audrey praised Azerbaijan`s efforts concerning the integration process.
She also hailed the country`s efforts towards forthcoming parliamentary elections. The OSCE official said “Azerbaijan has made more progress as compared with previous elections ”.
The two also discussed a number of issues of common interest, including prospects for further development of cooperation, role of local and international observers, and organization of pre-election agitation campaign of candidates.
