AZERBAIJANI SPEAKER MEETS WITH LITHUANIAN PRESIDENT
After the one-on-one meeting, Oqtay Asadov and Valdas Adamkus met in the presence of the two country’s delegations.
Oqtay Asadov spoke of the history of Azerbaijan-Lithuania relationship.
“Since gaining independence, Azerbaijan has established relations with various democratic countries. As an important member of the European family, Azerbaijan is keen to develop ties with Lithuania, and we believe President Valdas Adamkus’ visit to Azerbaijan will give an impetus to enhancement of cooperation. Your meeting with President Ilham Aliyev created a firm basis to further develop our relations. Azerbaijan’s economy has been rapidly developing during the last years, and we have good conditions for foreign investment. I believe that Lithuanian businessmen will invest in different spheres of our economy”, Chairman of the Parliament said.
Oqtay Asadov informed of Azerbaijan’s democratic development, and ongoing economic and legal reforms.
He said that Azerbaijan is the most rapidly developing country in the region, noting that the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline has already started operating, while the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline will be inaugurated by the end of this year.
The Azeri Speaker also touched on the inter-parliamentary ties between the two countries, and expressed confidence that the Latvian President’s visit will further enhance inter-parliamentary relations too.
President Valdas Adamkus, for his part, expressed his gratitude for warm welcome, and sad he is satisfied with his visit to Azerbaijan, and talks with President Ilham Aliyev.
“It was rapid development of Azerbaijan, and progress achieved here for a short period of time that revived our interest. We believe that our relations will further develop and enhance”, said President Adamkus.
The parties also discussed a wide range of other topics of mutual interest.
