Azerbaijan`s deputy FM meets Chair of California Senate Environmental Quality Committee
Baku, September 27 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khalaf Khalafov met with Chair of US California Senate Environmental Quality Committee Joseph Simitian.
Speaking in the meeting, Khalafov highlighted the existence of strategic partnership between the two countries. He noted that no efforts were spared towards expansion of ties with California.
The Azerbaijani deputy FM said that Azerbaijan is an `active` participant and initiator of important projects in the South Caucasus and Caspian region. He stressed US-Azerbaijan cooperation on global and regional issues as well as counter-terrorism is continuing.
Khalafov pointed out relations between the two countries` legislative bodies are `important`, adding reciprocal visits play a role of a `bridge` in development of bilateral ties.
On Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Azerbaijani deputy FM touched upon occupation of 20 percent Azerbaijan`s territories by Armenia and provided information on problems of refugees and IDPs. He stressed that as a result of Armenia`s aggressive policy and groundless claims against neighbours, this country has been left out of regional projects.
The Azerbaijani deputy FM described Armenia`s aggressive policy as a main obstacle to restoration of peace and stability in the region and noted that the results of the occupation “have not been recognized by the world community”.
In the meeting, California`s senators hailed Azerbaijan`s role in the region, stressing this country`s strategic importance. They also praised `rapid` development of the country.
