Azerbaijan’s humanitarian convoy on way to Turkey
Baku, 26 October (AZERTAC). As AZERTAC reported earlier, in accordance with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s order, a humanitarian aid convoy of the Azerbaijan Ministry of Emergency Situations taking aid for the victims of the recent earthquake in Turkey departed from Baku at 3.00 a.m. Wednesday and has already crossed the Iranian border.
An Azerbaijan’s aid convoy consists of several vehicles carrying 1.000 tents (each 24 square meters), 40 generators, 40 sets of kitchen accessories and more than 2000 blankets.
The Azerbaijan Ministry of Emergency Situations has already sent to Turkey more than 250 tents, 700 field sleeping sets, 3000 blankets, 2000 bedclothes and 2 field kitchens.
The rescue teams from Azerbaijan are still involved in rescue work in Van city in Turkey damaged by a recent earthquake. Nearly 1,000 buildings have been destroyed in the disaster zone, with the town of Ercis the worst hit. The death toll is expected to rise as outlying areas are reached.
