Azeri chief electoral officer hails Russian presidential election
Moscow, March 4 (AZERTAC). Chairman of Azerbaijan`s Central Election Commission has praised the organization of presidential election in Russia.
“The election is a politically important event in Russia`s life, and it has been very well organized,” Mazahir Panahov told AZERTAC`s Moscow-based correspondent.
“The voting is fully transparent. We have been monitoring the process in different polling stations since early hours,” said Panahov who led a large delegation of Azerbaijani observers, including MPs.
“Russian Central Election Commission has done everything to ensure the transparency of the voting so that the people could freely express their will.”
He said: “All 95,000 polling stations were equipped with web cameras. And I would like to note that this was first applied in Azerbaijan under the Azerbaijani President`s proposal and instructions.”
Panahov said he had a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Churov, adding the Russian chief electoral officer “also emphasized the fact that Azerbaijan was a pioneer in installing web-cameras in polling stations”.
Panahov said Russian electoral authorities created all conditions for the activity of international observers, NGOs and journalists.
“The voting marks a high turnout, with more than 30 per cent of the Russian voters having already cast their ballots in the first half of the day.”
“In the polling station No 164, over 35 per cent of voters cast their ballots by 1400 local time. This is a very good indicator for a separate polling station because usually turnout in regions is higher than that in the capital,” he added.
Panahov said Azerbaijan had sent a large delegation to monitor the voting.
“This is natural because Azerbaijan and Russia have excellent relations in all fields, including between electoral authorities. Relations between central election commissions of Azerbaijan and Russia were founded in 2003, and have been steadily developing since then,” he said.
