AZERI FM MEETS BULGARIAN OFFICIALS
Azerbaijan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov met Bulgarian officials as part of his Sofia visit aimed at exploring ways of boosting bilateral relations.
Mammadyarov`s meeting with chairman of Bulgaria`s national assembly Georgi Pirinski revolved around the bilateral interparliamentary relations, and both stressed the necessity of enhancing the collaboration between the parliamentary friendship groups.
The Azerbaijani FM touched on his country`s conflict with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh, and stressed Azerbaijan`s just stance on the dispute.
He also covered Azerbaijan`s moves towards integrating into Europe.
Elmar Mammadyarov also met with Ivaylo Kalfin, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who stressed the high-level of political cooperation between the two states.
Mammadyarov noted the importance of cooperating in non-oil sector, including agriculture and tourism.
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was also discussed, and Mammadyarov said it continues to remain the greatest threat to the regional security.
The Azeri FM thanked his counterpart for Bulgaria`s supporting Azerbaijan`s position on the dispute.
Mammadyarov also proposed Bulgaria`s joining a Group of GUAM Friends in the European Union.
Other issues the conversation circled around were cooperation with NATO, regional stability, international security, and humanitarian and economic cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, they signed a memorandum on consultations between the two countries` foreign ministries, and gave a joint press conference.
