Georgian PM expresses gratitude to Azerbaijan
Tbilisi, October 7, AZERTAC
“Strengthening our economic ties with our neighbors was essential. Thanks to an important agreement signed with Azerbaijan, Georgia has secured guarantees to purchase gas at a low price for a period of 20 years. It is also pivotal that electricity will be imported from Azerbaijan without intermediaries,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at a government meeting on Wednesday.
Regarding his country’s international economic cooperation, the Prime Minister noted that it is very important to strengthen economic ties with neighboring countries.
“In this regard, I would like to highlight the important agreement signed with Azerbaijan, which primarily concerns the country’s gas supply. It is vital that Georgia has secured guarantees regarding both gas volumes and low prices for the next 20 years. This was of strategic importance to our country, and I would like to thank our Azerbaijani partners for their friendly attitude,” the Prime Minister underlined.
“Furthermore, electricity will also be imported from Azerbaijan without intermediaries. This previously meant additional expenses for the state, whereas in the case of Azerbaijan, eliminating intermediaries will enable the state to generate several million in revenue each year,” Kobakhidze emphasized.
