Bulgarian, Australian businesses to discuss EU–Australia free trade agreement in Sofia

Representatives of Bulgarian and Australian businesses, government institutions, the European Commission, trade organizations and academia will gather later on Wednesday at Sofia University St, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) reported. Kliment Ohridski for the forum “EU–Australia FTA: What It Means for Bulgarian Business,” the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) said.
The event is jointly organized by the Bulgarian-Australian Business Chamber, the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University and the Embassy of Australia to Greece, Bulgaria and Romania. The working language of the forum will be English, and the event will be held in a hybrid format.
The business meeting will focus on practical opportunities for Bulgarian and Australian companies to prepare ahead of the entry into force of the European Union–Australia Free Trade Agreement.
According to European Commission data cited in the press release, 310 Bulgarian companies currently export goods worth more than EUR 95 million annually to Australia, including machinery, pharmaceutical products, optical and medical instruments, and agricultural products.
The forum will be opened by representatives of Bulgaria, Australia and the European institutions. Confirmed participants include Alison Duncan, Ambassador of Australia to Greece, Bulgaria and Romania; Hristo Polendakov, Bulgaria’s Deputy Foreign Minister; Tsvetan Simeonov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Marianna Molnar of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade and Economic Security; Peter Nagy of Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Rachel White, Australian Trade and Investment Commissioner in Milan; and Jason Collins of the European Australian Business Council.
The programme will focus on four business panels covering sectors with potential for bilateral cooperation. Participants will then have the opportunity to express their business interests and be connected with potential partners from Bulgaria and Australia.
