Baku, October 6, AZERTAC
As part of her working visit to the United Republic of Tanzania to participate in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova addressed a coordination meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).
In her remarks, Sahiba Gafarova noted that Azerbaijan’s key priorities during its APA chairmanship, assumed in February 2024, included strengthening the Assembly’s institutional capacity and role in inter-parliamentary dialogue in Asia. She highlighted that significant steps had been taken in this regard, including efforts to revitalize the work of the Assembly’s Bureau.
The Speaker emphasized that four coordination meetings were held during Azerbaijan’s APA chairmanship to exchange views on international issues, coordinate positions, and strengthen the APA’s engagement with the broader parliamentary agenda. She also stressed the importance of multilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation, stronger parliamentary participation in global decision-making, and inclusive participation in advancing sustainable development.
Sahiba Gafarova stressed that the experience gained within the APA over the past two years had once again demonstrated the importance of cooperation among different regions, cultures, and political perspectives.
