Mozambique’s COTE concludes public hearings
Baku, October 6, AZERTAC
The Technical Commission for the Inclusive National Dialogue (COTE) has formally concluded public hearings held across the country and is now preparing to extend the process to districts of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado that were not covered due to security concerns.
According to AIM (Agência de Informação de Moçambique), COTE Chairperson Edson Macuácua noted that the Commission has entered the phase of systematizing the contributions collected, but will continue to receive submissions from citizens, civil society organizations, public and private institutions, and academia.
“While the process is underway, we will create conditions to reach northern Cabo Delgado and cover some districts that, for security reasons, were not included in the hearing phase,” he said.
Macuácua did not specify which districts would be covered, but explained that COTE intends to create conditions for people in areas left out of the process to participate.
The hearings held so far involved various sectors of society, including citizens, civil society organizations, public and private institutions, and other stakeholders interested in the country’s future.
COTE also held consultations outside the country, including in Germany, where it met with various entities and representatives.
According to Edson Macuácua, the formal conclusion of the hearings does not mean the end of public participation, as the Commission remains open to receiving new contributions that could enrich its work.
COTE will now focus on systematizing and analyzing the contributions received while working to complete consultations in areas of Cabo Delgado that have not yet been covered.
