BAKU DESIGNATED CAPITAL OF ISLAMIC CULTURE FOR 2009
Azerbaijani delegation led by Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev attended the Fifth Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers in Tripoli, Libya.
During the conference, participants adopted decision to hold the 6th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers in Baku, in 2009. Besides, national report on use of the cultural strategy of Islamic world in the Republic of Azerbaijan worked out by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism was put on conference agenda. Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri strongly condemned the Armenia’s occupation policy against Azerbaijan.
The conference participants adopted a resolution on safeguarding the cultural heritage of the Islamic world.
They expressed satisfaction with Conference “Youth For Alliance of Civilizations” held in Baku on November 2007 as well as welcomed the First International Conference “Woman’s role in intercultural dialogue” to be hosted in Azerbaijani capital in 2008 by Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
During the conference, Mr. Garayev also met with ISESCO Director General, Culture Ministers of Libya, Egypt, Iran, Morocco and others to discuss the prospects of further cooperation.
