Baku hosts ‘roundtable’ on role of parliament in developing civil society
Baku, October 28 (AZERTAC). A “roundtable meeting” on the role of parliament in development of civil society has started today here.
Organized by the Eurasia Research Center, the event was addressed by Chief of Azerbaijani Presidential Administration`s socio-political department Ali Hasanov and head of the Russian Presidential Administration`s Department for Interregional and Cultural Relations Sergey Vinokurov and others.
Hasanov said Azerbaijan-Russia ties have been upgraded to the level of “strategic partnership”.
The speakers underlined the role of parliament in developing democracy and civil society in both countries. He highlighted the role of parliaments in developing relations among public organizations. The Head of Presidential Administration`s department also touched upon the history of Azerbaijani parliament, parliamentarism traditions, activity of the Milli Majlis and role of parliament in a process of democratization.
Hasanov noted the today`s meeting would give an impetus to future development of relations.
For his part, Vinokurov said economy must be a priority in development of bilateral cooperation. According to him, Russia has been one of major economic partners of Azerbaijan in recent years.
The roundtable culminated in the adoption of a declaration.
