BRIEFING IN FOREIGN MINISTRY OF AZERBAIJAN
Noting that agenda of the meeting initiated by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs comprised the questions discussed in the frame of Prague process, the deputy minister named the meting as important and useful. In the negotiations, detailed discussions were carried out for settlement of the conflict, he stressed.
Mr. Azimov said the variations of settlement of the conflict discussed in the meeting base on the country’s legislation, international law and principles. The mentioned high status of Nagorno Karabakh should be defined in the frame of territorial integrity of country and international norms, on democratic base by the Armenian and Azeri population of Nagorno Karabakh. In this question, other variations are not acceptable.
Azerbaijan does not see settlement of the conflict only in return of the occupied lands, the Deputy Foreign Minister underlined, adding that it includes normal and vital activities of the Armenian and Azeri communities of Nagorno Karabakh in peace, tranquility and cooperation, and also creation of joint management system to represent both communities.
Regarding the issue of conducting referendum to define status of Nagorno Karabakh disseminated in the Armenian media, Mr. Azimov stressed impossibility of the question basing of the Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic including Nagorno Karabakh, which is a part of the country. So, the Referendum, according to the Constitutions, can be conducted only in all the territory of the Republic, on the nationwide level. Other kind of Referendum cannot be conducted in the territory of Azerbaijan, he emphasized.
As was stated, in the London meeting, it was decided to make proposals for the next meeting of presidents.
