Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Kingdom of Spain Mammad Aliyev has visited one of the most developed regions of this country the Catalonia Autonomy, the embassy said.

Noting that he is aware of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum strategic projects, the dynamically developing economy, the President of the Autonomy Pascal Maragall said they are keen in establishment of close links with the Republic of Azerbaijan.

P. Maragall said he is hopeful that President Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Spain would also be in Barcelona.

Honorary President of the International Olympic Committee, head of one of the largest banks of Spain “Chaikha” Juan Antonio Samaranch in the metering with Ambassador said President Ilham Aliyev made a right decision to head the national Olympic committee after having been elected President of the country.

Noting that Azerbaijan has developed in all fields, Mr. Samaranch requested to convey his sincere greetings to the Head of the Azerbaijan State. He believed he would meet with President Ilham Aliyev in Barcelona.

In the meeting with honorary president of the Barcelona Mayoralty Juan Mathieu, Ambassador M. Aliyev expressed wish of establishment of direct economic, cultural links with Baku. Mr. Mathieu promised to uphold admission of Baku to the European big cities union.
