Chess World Cup 2013: Azerbaijani grandmasters advance to 1/16 finals
Baku, August 17 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani grandmasters Shahriyar Mammadyarov and Teymur Rajabov have advanced to 1/16 finals of the Chess World Cup 2013, which is being held in Tromso, Norway.
Mammadyarov will face Chinese Wei Yi, while Teymur Rajabov will clash with Russian Peter Svidler in the 1/16 final round of the cup.
The event is an integral part of the World Championship Cycle 2012-2014.
The winner and the runner up of the World Cup 2013 will qualify to the Candidates stage of the World Championship cycle 2012-2014.
There are 128 qualifiers (in order of priority): World Champion + four (4) semi-finalists from the World Cup 2011, Women`s World Champion, World Junior U-20 Champions 2011 & 2012, eighteen (18) rated players as described in 3.1.2, ninety (92) players from Continental Championships, six (6) FIDE President nominees and four (4) organizer nominees.
