The opening ceremony of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) supported Children and family Support Center will take a place in Goranboy July 25.

The USAID-supported Children and Family Support Center was created with the support of USAID and implemented by Save the Children Federation in partnership with United Aid for Azerbaijan within the Community-based Children’s Support Program.

The three-year “Community-based Children’s Support Program” launched on October 1, 2004, seeks to promote the full integration of vulnerable children into society and to develop community capacity to care for such children in Azerbaijan. Since the program started, three separate Children and Family Support Centers have been established in Shuvelan (Baku), Mingechevir and Goranboy.

The Children and Family Support Center targets children who experience social exclusion and discrimination within their community. This includes children and youth from the poorest families, children living in institutions, disabled children, and refugee/IDP children. By establishing this center it is hoped to demonstrate community-based alternatives to institutional care, which will be included within an overall Government framework for de-institutionalization. The center will promote children’s return to their families.
