CIS leaders highlight necessity of regional conflicts resolution
Baku, September 5 (AZERTAC). The necessity of resolution of regional conflicts was noted in the statement summing up the results of the twenty-year activity of the Commonwealth, adopted in the Summit of Council of Commonwealth of Independent States Heads of State.
The statement says that “the main condition for successful development of the CIS will be the settlement of the existing conflicts through peaceful means based on mutual confidence-building measures, principles and norms of the international law”.
Intention to further strengthen cooperation on ensure security of citizens, combating terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism, illegal migration and human trafficking, and drug trafficking was also noted in the document.
The sides also agreed that they would continue the practice of political talks within the CIS on peaceful policy and international problems. The CIS heads of state regard as useful the initiatives toward preserving regional and global security, including Russia`s proposal on the Treaty on European Security.
