CONSTITUENT SESSION OF PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY OF GUUAM COUNTRIES UNDERWAY IN KIEV
Opening the session, V. Litvin has emphasized, that creation of Parliamentary Assembly of GUUAM will allow using opportunities for deepening of cooperation within the framework of this Organization.
Permanent representative of the President of Ukraine in Supreme Rada A. Zadorozhniy has read the greeting letter to participants of session of the President of the country, Leonid Kuchma.
In his remarks at session, head of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Murtuz Alaskarov, having informed on the accomplishments reached by Azerbaijan under the direction of President Ilham Aliyev in all spheres of life in the Republic, also has emphasized sharp necessity of creation of Parliamentary assembly of GUUAM for interests of the further development of cooperation of the countries of this organization in political, economic and cultural spheres. M. Alaskarov has especially noted the common position in the cause of protection of territorial integrity of the countries, in the question of settlement of the problems of Nagorny Karabakh, South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Prednestrovie on the basis of norms of international law and principle of territorial integrity of the states. Chairman of Parliament of Azerbaijan has emphasized, that as a result of aggression against Azerbaijan, 20 percent of territory of the country have been occupied, and there are more than one million refugees. He also has stated that because of a policy of double standards, these problems are not solved. M. Alaskarov has called members of parliament of GUUAM countries to apply henceforth more efforts for resolution to these problems, and also in fighting against the international terrorism.
After the negotiations, heads of parliaments of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine have signed the “Declaration on creation of Parliamentary assembly of GUUAM” and “Rules of procedure of Parliamentary Assembly of GUUAM.”
Members of the Azerbaijan parliamentary delegation and the ambassador of Azerbaijan in Ukraine Talat Aliyev have taken part in work of constituent session of PA of GUUAM. At the session, there were ambassadors from more than 10 foreign countries.
Official visit of chairman of Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan to Ukraine is in progress.
