DEFENSE MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN MEETS WITH US DELEGATION
The Defense Minister pointed out the expanding links between the governments of USA and Azerbaijan, said the country takes the United States as its strategic partner. In particular, he said the U.S. activity as a OSCE Minsk group co-Chair on settlement of Armenia – Azerbaijan conflict as well as the country’s efforts for economic development of Azerbaijan are worthy with approval. General-Colonel Safar Abiyev also noted that Azerbaijan is closely cooperating with NATO, and the Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces are rapidly approaching the NATO standards strengthening the cooperation with this structure.
Having thanked for the reception, Ambassador Reno Harnish has clarified the goal of the visit and saying the US ans NATO cooperation with Azerbaijan and other counties is aimed at elimination of instability there. The United States, according to the Ambassador, attends to continue cooperation with Azerbaijan in security issues as well.
Introducing the guests, the American diplomat pointed out that Washington looks forward to the visit of the Azerbaijan Minister of Defense, to define priority directions of U.S. – Azerbaijan military cooperation.
The guests – Eric Shultz and Bruce Rodgers told of their activity, and had a comprehensive opinions exchange on the prospects of the military cooperation between the two countries.
