EU welcomes Azerbaijan-Turkey gas deal
Baku, October 29 (AZERTAC). EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger has lauded the signing of a gas agreement by Azerbaijan and Turkey.
“On Tuesday, Azerbaijan and Turkey agreed terms for the transit and sale of gas in Turkey from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan,” Oettinger told an international conference in Brussels.
According to him, it is good for Europe, as gas from Azerbaijan “will arrive on the European Union`s border and be distributed within Europe throughout the EU internal market. But it is not sufficient, and it does not change our focus”.
`We want to see sufficient dedicated pipeline capacity that links Azerbaijan to Europe. And this pipeline capacity needs to be operated within a strong legal framework compatible with international law,” Oettinger added.
