Final conference on UN special mechanisms kicks off in Baku
Baku, August 16 (AZERTAC). Final conference called “UN special mechanisms” as part of twinning project for 2011 between Azerbaijan`s Ombudsman Office and the German Institute for Human Rights has today started in Park INN-Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan`s Commissioner for Human Rights Elmira Suleymanova, German ambassador to the country Herbert Quelle and the EU ambassador Roland Cobia made speeches in the opening ceremony of the event.
The speakers provided information on progress achieved within the framework of the project, national human rights institutions` activity and role of UN agreements on human rights stressing the importance of the project.
The meeting features reports on special mechanisms on human rights: role and importance, new difficulties on protection of religious freedom, prospects of the UN`s special reporter and others.
