First Swahili-language issue of international IRS magazine published

The first Swahili-language issue of the international magazine “Irs-Urithi,” which promotes Azerbaijan’s rich culture, ancient history, and spiritual heritage worldwide, has been published. The magazine aims to bring the realities of Azerbaijan to a wide audience in East Africa, particularly to the more than 200 million people who speak Swahili.
In the foreword to the first issue, the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Musa Marjanli emphasizes that the publication has so far been successfully published in 21 languages worldwide, while the Swahili-language edition represents one of the important regional projects on the African continent.
The Editor-in-Chief provides readers with detailed information about Azerbaijan’s geographical location, its development path, the liberation of its territories from occupation, and the large-scale reconstruction efforts currently underway in those areas. The main articles in the first issue focus on WUF13 and the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” declared in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The first issue also devotes considerable attention to topics of particular importance to the East African region. An article by Alice Wahome, Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development of the Republic of Kenya, is presented to readers. In her article, the minister highly appreciates Kenya’s participation in the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku with a delegation led by President William Ruto, as well as Kenya’s international experience in affordable housing and sustainable urban development.
Alice Wahome also emphasizes that the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Baku between the ministry she heads and Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, will pave the way for an exchange of experience and a new stage of partnership between the two countries in urban planning and modern infrastructure.
The first issue of the magazine also extensively covers topics of particular importance to the East African region, including an analytical article by Sultan Hajiyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Kenya and Congo and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), dedicated to the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and prospects for their development.
The article highlights the high-level meeting between President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Kenya William Ruto in New York, Kenya’s high-level representation at the global climate summit COP29 hosted by Baku, and cooperation documents signed between ADA University and the Foreign Service Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya.
In addition, the “Our Values” and “Architecture” sections of the magazine feature an article by Ravan Hasanov dedicated to Azerbaijan’s model of tolerance.
Readers are also presented with colorful photo reports and popular-science materials in Swahili about the Heydar Aliyev Center, one of the masterpieces of world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid; Baku’s historic Old City (Icherisheher); and the gems of Art Nouveau architecture in the capital.
Featuring an image of the Flame Towers, one of Baku’s modern symbols, on its cover, the debut issue of the magazine makes an important contribution to building cultural and humanitarian bridges between Azerbaijan and the countries of East Africa.
