FOREIGN MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN ATTENDS UNESCO GENERAL ASSEMBLY’S SESSION
The same day, speaking at the session, the Minister underlined the importance of conducting of such a session when the Organization’s 60th anniversary is marked, reminded the recent visit of the UNESCO Director General Mr. Matsuura Koichiro to Azerbaijan, specified the importance of the document signed by him and the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and shared his views on the necessity of improvement of education system in the country.
Minister Mammadyarov especially gave detailed information on the refugee children who have lost their homes and school as a result of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, updated on the cultural monuments destroyed at the occupied lands of Azerbaijan. The Minister also stressed the work being done on realization of the joint projects on improvement of education system in the Republic.
The Minister highlighted the participants on the care and attention by the Azerbaijani President for education, on assessment given by UNESCO to the Azerbaijani mughams, on the merits of the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva for preservation of cultural heritage in the Republic.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with the Director General of UNESCO Matsuura Koichiro. He highly assessed the works done for preservation of cultural heritage by Mehriban Aliyeva in Azerbaijan.
Mr. Matsuura promised to continue cooperation for improvement of the education system in the Republic.
