Forum of Azerbaijani Scientists Living Abroad kicks off in Baku

The Forum of Azerbaijani Scientists Living Abroad, supported by the State Committee for Work with Diaspora and the Ministry of Science and Education, and organized by the World Association of Azerbaijani Scholars, commenced in Baku on Monday.
The event began with the national anthem of Azerbaijan, followed by a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs who died for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
Subsequently, Farah Aliyeva, Head of the Department of Humanitarian Policy, Diaspora, Multiculturalism and Religious Issues of the Presidential Administration, read out President Ilham Aliyev's address to the event participants.
The event then featured the screening of the “Heydar Aliyev and Education” video.
Addressing the forum, Rafael Huseynov, academician, Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi and the moderator described the event as a manifestation of strength and unity of Azerbaijan.
He also highlighted the invaluable contribution of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to Azerbaijan’s independence and path of development, adding that political will of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the country’s victory in the Patriotic War had further enhanced Azerbaijan’s authority in the region and international arena.
Highlighting the activity of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, Huseynov said that a total of 561 Azerbaijani diaspora organizations are operating in 51 countries.
In his remarks, Hafiz Pashayev, Rector of ADA University said, “Advancing the Azerbaijani science with the involvement of the country’s scientists living abroad and training modern era specialists are the need of the hour.”
Highlighting the activities of ADA University, Rector Hafiz Pashayev mentioned that, with its successful path of development, the university had introduced several innovations.
“During the Soviet period, science and education were well-developed in Azerbaijan. Scientists and specialists from abroad were brought to the Baku State University. There was also a need to involve specialists in the field of exact sciences, which was fulfilled at the expense of scientists from the USSR,” he noted.
“After Azerbaijan regained its independence, like in all other fields, it was necessary to implement innovations in the field of science and education,” the rector mentioned.
"We need to think about what should be done for advancing the Azerbaijani science and training professionals. Today, we have talented young people growing up in Azerbaijan. We are confident that those young people will contribute to the development of science and education in our country," Hafiz Pashayev underlined.
Other speakers included Emin Amrullayev, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Science and Education, and Fuad Muradov, Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora as they pointed out the importance of integration of the Azerbaijani scientists living abroad and determining priorities for developing education in the country.
The three-day event brings together nearly 200 scientific figures, including over 80 Azerbaijani scholars from 23 countries.
The forum aims to foster connections among Azerbaijani scientists abroad, facilitate interactions with local scientists, and promote the exchange knowledge and experience.
The Forum participants will also visit the cities of Shusha and Khankendi and engage in discussions with teaching staff at the Garabagh University.
