French police arrest 12 people suspected of terrorism in South France
Baku, October 6 (AZERTAC). Anti-terrorism Police in Southern France have reportedly arrested 12 suspects and seized guns and ammunition.
The 12 who were mainly arrested around and in the cities of Marseille and Avignon are allegedly linked with Muslim extremist groups according to French media.
At least nine of the arrested are also linked with firearms and explosives trafficking.
The group is suspected of being part of a larger organization and reports have also said that heavy firearms were also amongst the seized weapons.
French police have also said that not all the arrested were linked to the same terrorism charges and some were arrested under different charges including arms trafficking. At least three of the arrested are suspected of being a cell of a larger organization sends extremists to the Afghanistan-Pakistan border to get military training.
It is suspected that some of these training camps prepare the attendees as suicide bombers where as others go through different forms of training.
Last week French police were also on guard and patrolling tube and train stations after warnings of a terror attack as a response for France banning the Burkha or full face veil.
However the recent arrests have not been linked to last week`s threat.
The arrests in France came amid warning from the US government to it`s citizens to take caution while in Europe.
