HEALTH OF PRISONERS IN FOCUS
Speaking at the workshop, attended by representatives of the ministry of justice and health, ICRC, non-governmental organizations, international experts, healthcare employees engaged in the places of confinement, heads of a number of penitentiary establishments, deputy justice minister of Republic Vilayet Zahirov, head of the ICRC country representative Mary Wernz, representative of Health Ministry Shahnaz Bakhshaliyeva noted necessity of studying experience of numerous countries in the field of combat against tuberculosis and AIDS, much worrying last times the international community, coordination of activities of relevant structures of the ministries of health and justice, as well NGOs, search of opportuntities of useful cooperation.
At the 3-day action, the international experts from Belgium, Ukraine, Switzerland, Russia and Georgia delivered lectures on organization and activities of the health services in the penitentiary system of the Eastern Europe, South America and CIS, prevention of spread tuberculosis and AIDS in the places of confinement.
In discussions, carried out in-group format, the attendees had exchange of views on the questions on application of modern achievements of science in combat against this disease and practical problems.
The conferee noted necessity of the strengthening of interaction in penitentiary and civil health establishments, more active use of opportuntities of international cooperation with the account of the positive experience in other countries to raise efficiency of taken measures, implemented in the said field.
