INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS BACK UP ONGOING PENITENTIARY REFORMS IN AZERBAIJAN
At a meeting held on February 16, Deputy Minister of Justice Vilayet Zahirov updated the guests on the drastic reforms to bring penal system of Azerbaijan in line with up-to-date standards and stressed an importance of the projects implemented together with international organizations.
Margaret Killerby, leader of the delegation, head of the Crime Problems Department of the CoE Secretariat, positively assessed ongoing reforms in the penitentiary system of Azerbaijan and expressed hope that the program would be successful.
The meeting focused on the plan of actions for joint program of the Council of Europe and European Commission. The sides exchanged views on the possibility to conduct trainings for penitentiary service officers, business trips to European countries, technical assistance for penitentiary reforms.
Alessandro Mancini, program coordinator on legal affairs of the CoE secretariat Alessandro Mancini positively assessed ongoing judicial reforms in Azerbaijan and tests and interviews to fill the positions of judges conducted in fair and transparent atmosphere. He congratulated Azerbaijani side on completion of the present selection stage.
