Italy’s Sardinia region interested in expansion of relations with Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Italy Vagif Sadigov has held a range of meetings as he visited the country’s Sardinia region.
During the meeting with the President of the Sardinia Region Francesco Pigliaru, the sides exchanged views on Azerbaijan-Italy relations, TAP project, the country’s energy strategy, education system, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and other issues of mutual interest. The Ambassador noted that President Ilham Aliyev's official visit to Italy in July last year contributes to further development of relations. "The Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and the Republic of Italy" adopted during the meeting is of great importance for enhancing cooperation.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict Mr. Sadigov noted that as a result of military aggression of Armenia 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands have been occupied and more than 1 million Azerbaijanis have become refugees and internally displaced persons.
Touching upon the TAP project, the Ambassador stressed the importance of it in terms of energy security of Europe, adding the project will contribute to further strengthen Azerbaijan’s position in the international arena.
Meeting with the Mayor of Cagliari Massimo Zedda during his visit to Sardinia region, the Ambassador highlighted the rapid economic development and the high tolerance in the country.
Mr. Zedda stressed the importance of organizing cultural events between Azerbaijan and Sardinia region and cooperation between higher education institutions and business circles of the two countries.
A meeting with the president of the Sardinia’s Union of Industrialists Alberto Scanu was attended by the region’s business leaders. The Ambassador hailed Azerbaijan's economic development level, the current state of economic relations between the two countries and business opportunities. He invited the region’s president and business representatives to visit Azerbaijan and familiarize with the business environment in the country. Mr. Sadigov then responded the questions of local businessmen.
Meeting with the president of the Cagliari Chamber of Commerce Ciancarlo Deidda, the Azerbaijani Ambassador highlighted the current state of economic relations between the two countries, adding that this cooperation based on strong political relations.
Mr. Deidda in his turn said that he was interested in developing relations with Azerbaijan, stressed the importance of organizing joint activities in a number of areas, including the tourism sector.
