Leipzig, May 6, AZERTAC
“From Central Asian region, probably speaking, Azerbaijan was the first country to chair and lead this platform for the past three years, that really added a great value to us,” Young Tae Kim, Secretary-General of the International Transport Forum (ITF), told a press conference on the margins of the Annual ITF Summit in Leipzig, Germany.
“So we usually have a lot of cases from our Western European side, Western world, for example, developed world, but also from the developing perspective, country perspective, we could learn different contexts and also that really enriched our reflections on the same questions, also inviting many non-European countries like Latin American countries and Asian countries,” he said.
“Especially when we have these kind of problems in the world, geopolitical issues, and then connectivity questions become a big topic for us. It was really timely that Azerbaijan offered this presidency because connecting Asia and Europe has become a big topic for all of us. Definitely, we will continue to develop these ideas,” Young Tae Kim noted.
“It is also linked to the other topics like decarbonization transport because we very much depend on the maritime activity, but the maritime sector is one of the hard-to-beat sectors. If we go about more evenly transportation tools on the Eurasian continent, I think they can also bring another benefits. Overall, I was very happy and very supported by the Azerbaijani government and also the ambassador here during the meeting. He was always the great leader and I really appreciate every network built by the Azerbaijani government,” the ITF Chief concluded.
