Tokyo, February 11, AZERTAC
Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Japan Gursel Ismayilzade has been interviewed by Fuji Sankei Business newspaper.
In the interview, the Ambassador highlighted the history and development of Azerbaijani statehood, the country`s current political and economic life, and business environment.
Apart from the newspaper`s correspondent, the Ambassador responded to questions from author of “Azerbaijan, a rapidly developing country the Japanese are not aware of” book Kazuyasu Ishida.
Highlighting the history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which existed in the early 19th century, the Ambassador said it was the first democratic republic in the Muslim East. He stressed national leader Heydar Aliyev`s role in the establishment of modern Azerbaijani state after the restoration of the country`s independence. “Thanks to rapid development and modernization under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev the country became the leader of the region,” the Ambassador said.
Mr Ismayilzade said the implementation of energy projects and location in the region`s transport corridor increased the geostrategic importance of Azerbaijan.
The Ambassador noted the significance of high-profile international events hosted by Azerbaijan.
“In this regard, the upcoming events, including the first European Games in 2015, Formula-1 in 2016 and some matches of the 2020 European football championship testify to the development and strong international image of Azerbaijan.”
The Ambassador praised Kazuyasu Ishida`s book on Azerbaijan, saying “it demonstrates the increasing interest of Japanese people and businessmen in Azerbaijan”.
