Kazakhstan Inventor Touts “Eternal Kazakh Calendar”
Baku, October 23 (AZERTAC). If inventor Saylybay Bekbolatov gets his way, Kazakhstan will soon switch to a new calendar that will start on March 0 and last 13 months.
As Channel 7 reports, Bekbolatov has suggested calling his creation "the eternal Kazakh calendar."
The proposal, he explains, is aimed at restoring "historic scientific truth" to the art of time-keeping. The system appears to be so convoluted, however, that truth may only be restored at the cost of clarity and sanity.
Under the eternal Kazakh calendar, the first day of the month will always fall on a Monday, with the final day of the week accordingly always falling on a Sunday. Almost all months will be 28 days long, except for March.
Since the New Year should begin with the spring equinox, to be observed on March 0, this month will be longer.
The extra 13 or so days shaved off the Gregorian calendar (currently used in most of Kazakhstan) will be bunched together in one extra month to be positioned somewhere between November and December.
Bekbolatov suggests this new month could be called Ophiuchus, which is known by astrology enthusiasts as the thirteenth sign of the zodiac.
Developing this calendar and the patented new star sign system has apparently consumed some two decades of Bekbolatov`s life. As one commenter for Channel 7`s story suggests, these may have been "20 wasted years."
