Khojaly genocide`s anniversary marked in New York
Baku, January 27 (AZERTAC). Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN has addressed a letter on the Khojaly genocide to the Organization`s Secretary General on February 22.
The letter features the Khojaly massacre committed by the Armenian armed forces and former USSR`s 366th motor rifle regiment.
On February 25, a protest rally was held in front of the United Nations Secretariat and Armenia`s permanent representation to the UN. The demonstrators chanted slogans condemning Armenia`s aggression against Azerbaijan.
The same day, the Organization of Islamic Conference distributed press-release on the 19th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy among member states of the United Nations. In the press-release, the OIC condemns the Khojaly tragedy and occupation of Azerbaijan`s territories by Armenia.
A commemorative event to mark the 19th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was organized Saturday by the Azerbaijani and Turkish Diaspora organizations in New-York. The event was addressed by permanent representative of Azerbaijan to the UN, Agshin Mehdiyev, head of the Azerbaijani-American Council, Javid Huseynov and president of the Azerbaijani Society of America, Tomris Azeri. They highlighted legal and political aspects of the Khojaly tragedy. The speakers also underlined the necessity of the continuation of activities to make the world community known about the massacre.
The event was also attended by employees of Azerbaijan`s Permanent Representation to the UN, members of the Azerbaijani and Turkish Diaspora organizations, representatives of the Mountain Jewish society.
