MEETING AT MILLI MAJLIS
Greeting the guests, Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament dwelt on the relations between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria, of the inter-parliamentary cooperation links, stressing the role of the heads of state in development of bilateral relations.
Chairman of Milli Majlis stated that as the most developed country in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan is constantly integrating to Europe. But occupation by Armenia the 20 percent of the Country’s territories, the problem of over one million of refugees seriously impedes development of the Republic. Some international organizations, including OISCE Minsk Group are engaged in the problem. The United Nations Security Council has four resolutions related to the occupation. Also was adopted a significant document at the Lisbon Summit. Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in its documents has approved the fact of occupation by Armenia of the Azerbaijani lands. Despite Azerbaijan has undergone aggression we are for peaceful solution of the problem in the frame of, international law. But destructive position the leadership of Armenia hampers settlement of the conflict.
Mr. Murtuz Alaskarov reminded that the Armenians plant and grow narcotics at the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and at the account of income from sale of narcotics they finance the terrorists. Sanctions must be imposed to the aggressor to solve the problem. Otherwise, Armenia should not refrain from its commitments. Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament stressed that patience of Azerbaijani people is not endless. Azerbaijan has strong army, and we are able to liberate our lands, he underlined.
Expressing his gratitude for sincere reception, Mr. Solomon Passy noted his satisfaction with reforms implemented in Azerbaijan. He said that OSCE supports peaceful and quick settlement of the conflict. For this purpose, first, the sides should reach agreement.
OSCE Acting Chairman stated that after completion of his visit to the region, he would also request heads of other organizations to intensify efforts for settlement of the conflict.
Also were discussed a number of other issues of mutual interest.
Deputy chairmen of Milli Majlis, members of the Azerbaijan delegation at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, head of the OSCE Baku Office Peter Burhard took part at the reception.
